Safety in brake testing begins with responsibility —
responsibility that must be consistently upheld.

Not an option!

An obligation.

EN 17003 sets the benchmark for safe and standards-compliant brake testing.

We know what matters.

The standard defines what is necessary. Nothing more — but nothing less.

Why test stands need to be rethought today

Anyone operating a test stand carries responsibility — both technically and personally.
For employees. For third parties. For every life within the sphere of influence of the system.
This responsibility cannot be transferred.
It remains with the operator. Without exception.

Accidents in test stands are not fate. They are preventable. And that is exactly why the EN 17003 standard exists.

It was not created from theoretical considerations, but from real events.
From situations in which people were injured.

EN 17003 makes one thing unmistakably clear:
Safety is not a matter of interpretation, but an obligation.
Anyone operating a test stand today is accountable not only legally, but also morally.
Those who take this responsibility seriously align their actions consistently with clear and recognized rules.
Working in accordance with this standard creates the foundation for safe processes
and controlled, reliable use of test stands.

Not because it is prescribed.
But because it should be self-evident.

Four measures that are not negotiable. Understand when each measure applies.

What EN 17003 requires

We advise and support you in understanding which measures apply and when, how the normative requirements must be correctly implemented, and how safety becomes lived responsibility in test stand operation.

Manufacturer

Safety is not an option.

It’s that simple.

Standards compliance does not begin only during operation — it starts with the manufacturer.

Only when all necessary options are available can the requirements of EN 17003 be fully implemented.
Depending on the operating environment, additional components are essential.
That is why we offer a system that takes safety into account from the ground up.

Compliant with standards as standard.
Expandable wherever necessary.

Trade partners

Must provide guidance.

Those who sell must know what the customer needs. Consulting is not an option, but a duty. Trade partners are responsible for proactively informing customers and, together with the manufacturer and operator, defining the appropriate, standards-compliant setup.

Operators

Must act responsibly.

It’s that simple.

Regardless of the manufacturer or trade partner, responsibility lies with the operator. Compliance with the standard is mandatory because safety is not negotiable and the protection of employees has top priority.

THE STANDARD ALREADY APPLIES!
SAFETY BEGINS WITH TRUE UNDERSTANDING —
THAT IS WHY WE HAVE TAKEN PRECAUTIONS.

RECO S — manual motor start via remote control

EN 17003 does not permit automatic start-up of the test stand.
Safe operation requires a deliberate, manual start process.

With RECO S, targeted and safe motor start is possible at all times.
Control is carried out deliberately by the operator — without unintended activation.

Safety railings & inspection pit

The hazardous area of the test stand must be mechanically separated.
For this purpose, we offer safety railings in the prescribed dimensions,
reliably separating people from the hazardous area.

Corresponding safeguards are also required for inspection pits.
For this purpose, we provide various solutions that ensure standards-compliant and safe use.

Emergency stop RECO + safety railings

The required emergency stop is integrated directly into the remote control
and is therefore always immediately available to the operator.

In addition, a further emergency stop can optionally be provided on the safety railing
so that immediate intervention is also possible from the direct surroundings of the test stand in an emergency.

A mandatory warning light signals the upcoming roller start
and thereby increases safety for all persons in the hazardous area.

Performance Level d — safety in the control system

The safety-related functions of the test stand are designed in accordance with ISO 13849 to meet Performance Level d.

This means:
The control system is designed so that a safe state is maintained even in the event of faults.
Redundant structures and continuous monitoring prevent a single fault
from leading to a hazardous situation.
Unintentional start-up of the test stand is therefore excluded.
The connection between the test stand and the remote control is designed to be safe and is continuously monitored.

Practice has shown: safety pays off!

“A brake tester that fails can kill. EN 17003 sets the binding standard — and MAHA complies with it across all new test stand series.
We only place CE-compliant products on the market. No compromise, no exception.”
